Industry Development

Industry Development groups form the cornerstone of EDB’s industrial strategy of growing both the manufacturing and services sectors that constitute 40% of Singapore’s GDP.

Our officers in the Industry Development are tasked to attract and facilitate investments and business activities into Singapore that are in-line with our strategic industrial plans. We work closely with companies to understand their needs, configure their activities and assist in their implementation. This involves engaging CEOs, decision-makers and management in both the private and public sectors. Our intent is to help companies succeed such that the industries in Singapore can continue to flourish.

The industry clusters in EDB include

Biomedical Sciences and Healthcare Services
, Chemicals, Education Services, Electronics, Engineering and Environmental Services, Headquarters and Professional Services, Infocommunications and Media, Logistics, Precision Engineering and Transport Engineering.

New Businesses

Singapore needs to build next-generation industries for economic growth in the next decade. As part of this drive, our officers in the New Businesses group are tasked to look specifically into new sources of growth in the next 3-10 year timeframe. Building on the strengths of our existing industry sectors and research entities, the Group aims to nurture future industries that could become important contributors to the economy. This could be in the areas of new technologies and emerging industries like lifestyle & sports, clean energy and environment & water

Planning & Policy

To maintain Singapore’s leadership position, EDB will continue to nurture an active and competitive business environment. The Planning & Policy Group reviews global economic and industry trends to develop and execute economic development strategies to ensure Singapore’s sustainable competitive strengths.

Officers in the Business Environment (International Agreement) division ensure we are well connected to the global economy by expanding Singapore's economic linkages with the region and the world through free trade agreements and other bilateral or business networks or multilateral government arrangements.

To ensure that we remain open and attractive to investors and talents from the world over, the Resource Development division reviews and proposes policies and strategies to ensure the reliability and availability of skilled manpower, as well as excellent industrial and business infrastructure.

To remain competitive and relevant as an international business hub, officers in the Business Environment (Tax & Financial Policy) play a critical role in evaluating the effectiveness of finance and tax related tools for EDB’s investment promotion efforts. The division is instrumental in developing new policies & programmes in anticipation of and in response to changing market conditions and requirements.

The Planning division advises management on strategic solutions to improve Singapore’s competitiveness as a hub for business and investments. Officers also play a critical role in monitoring the progress of EDB’s industry clusters and our investment promotion efforts.
