Cognita to Build a New International School in Singapore

Cognita, a leading international education group based in the United Kingdom, will be adding to Singapore’s diverse and vibrant education scene after it was awarded a plot of land in Upper Serangoon to build an international school offering a US-based curriculum.

The decision was made by a government committee chaired by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), based on the merits of Cognita’s proposal, which includes quality curriculum offerings and a strong track record of outstanding schools worldwide. The group has over 45 schools in the UK and Spain, and having acquired the Australian International School of Singapore, Cognita has also made its presence felt locally.

Now, it will be setting up the Stamford American International School – a top-tier foreign system school (FSS) – and expects to welcome the first intake of students in September 2009. The school will accommodate 600 students initially, but will eventually grow to house 2,500. The opening of the school will help to ease the tight supply of FSS places, particularly those looking for an American-styled education system.

“The Stamford American International School will provide excellent education from a new and outstanding facility that has the added benefit of being close to the city centre with convenient access to public transportation,” says Brian Rogove, Managing Director, Asia, Cognita. “We are excited to participate in the development of Singapore as a world class educational hub.”
