Three International Business Leaders Conferred National Honours

1. Singapore President S R Nathan today conferred the Public Service Star (Distinguished Friends of Singapore), and Public Service Medal (Friends of Singapore/Business) on three international business leaders at a ceremony at the Istana. The awards recognise and honour the significant contributions these recipients have made to the Singapore’s economy.

2. The Distinguished Friends of Singapore award is one of the highest recognitions for the outstanding contributions of international heads of organizations to Singapore’s economy over a sustained period. These recipients have played a significant role in strengthening Singapore’s business and technological capabilities, specifically in knowledge-intensive, capital-intensive and innovation-intensive activities.

3. The 2007 recipients of the Public Service Star (Distinguished Friends of Singapore) are:
  • Mr Steven R. Appleton – Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Micron Technology, Inc
  • Mr Peter Alexander Wacker – President and Chief Executive Officer, Wacker-Chemie AG

4. The Friends of Singapore/Business award recognises senior executives for their economic contributions to Singapore. Working closely with various government agencies, they have promoted Singapore’s growth and interests beyond their corporate boundaries.

5. The 2007 recipient of the Public Service Medal (Friends of Singapore/Business) is:
  • Mr Erik Peyrer – Vice President, Business Development, Asia Pacific & Middle East, Cameron International Corporation

6. Mr Ko Kheng Hwa, Managing Director of the Economic Development Board, said: “Singapore is very grateful to have these exceptional business leaders who are such ardent friends and fans of Singapore. Through their strong personal commitment and support, they have played an instrumental role in helping Singapore build globally competitive industry clusters and create growth opportunities for our economy. My heartiest congratulations and appreciation to these three corporate champions of Singapore."
