The Enterprise, Innovation and Technology Exchange

01 Jun 2005

The networking event of the year returns for a third run, with cutting-edge technologies, breakthrough ideas and new market opportunities in the pipeline.

"There is great potential here to find business partners. There are a lot of opportunities for collaboration through all the networking that is going around."
- Mr Sharad Subramanian, Head (International Business), CRISIL Limited (India)

Gunning for greater success in its third year, Global Entrepolis @ Singapore 2005 (GES 2005) comprises 20 major events, from strategic conferences and industry seminars to venture capitalist summits and business workshops. GES 2005 will be held between 26 and 29 September 2005, with opportunities looming in the horizon for investors, entrepreneurs, managers, start-ups and companies in search of partners, new markets, ideas and funding.

More global conferences

GES 2005's flagship conference - the Captains Of Industry Conference - features prominent business leaders and international thinkers who will trade insights on how companies can reinvent themselves to stay relevant, and how corporations can be transformed into new entities while retaining their market share, meeting their revenue forecasts and returning healthy shareholder value.

Other key conferences include the Distinguished Technopreneurs Forum, which examines core issues faced by technopreneurs, innovators and enterprises, and the ninth instalment of TechVenture Asia 2005, an information and networking channel for the international venture capital and business communities. Industry specialists should also keep an eye out for such industry-specific conferences as the Singapore Media Forum and the Global HR Conference 2005, which offer industry snapshots and perspectives on future directions.

Wider international networks

GES 2005 features a rich selection of networking activities, and highlights include the ASEAN Business Connection, where one can make connections within the ASEAN business community; the Chinese Business Leaders Summit: Supporting Chinese Enterprises To Go Global and the Chinese Technopreneurs Forum, which provide opportunities for interaction with prominent Chinese business leaders and technopreneurs; and the India IT Forum 2005: The War For Talent, which brings together industry players, policymakers and analysts from India's information technology industry.

"This is the second time I am here, and it keeps getting better. It is highly focused this year and we are meeting the people we want to deal with. GES gives us the opportunity to gather and share ideas as this industry thrives on sharing of information."
- Mr Loudon Owen, Managing Partner, McLean Watson (Canada)

Greater business opportunities

Technology, innovation and market opportunities converge in the Enterprise Exchange, which will showcase over 200 international companies and occupy some 63,000 sq ft of exhibition space.

The exhibition will see participation from business incubators and national pavilions - which will provide market connections and interface with over 100,000 enterprises in their respective countries - as well as world-class academic institutions, venture capital companies and established multinational corporations.

Main attractions include the Hub Of Technopreneurs (HOT) events, designed to spin off fruitful exchanges between its participants. HOTDate, for example, provides a platform for innovators, start-ups and entrepreneurs to pitch their solutions to venture capitalists, technology buyers, channel partners and market multipliers; HOTPitch sets the stage for innovators to pitch their ideas to up to 200 potential investors; and HOTSource puts large corporations and government agencies in the spotlight, where they provide insights into their technology and procurement roadmaps.

With such a rich source of industry contacts making their way down to the sprawling halls of the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre, it is simply a great and easy way for business representatives to see and be seen by fellow associates. To get inspired, make your way down to the big networking event of the year, and get ready for an exciting four days' worth of interactive business activities.

Moving into gear in 2004

  • More participants flocked to the city-state last year, with 12,000 participants spanning 40 countries, 160 exhibitors and 3,000 foreign delegates.
  • There was also a significant jump in the amount of funds announced - over S$500 million (US$299.1 million) of funds, investments and deals were committed.
  • Over 17 projects, partnerships and companies also declared their intentions to begin businesses in Singapore.
  • Besides the anchoring shows such as The Enterprise Exchange exhibition and Captains Of Industry conference, 29 industry-specific conferences were held. HOT, which was part of The Enterprise Exchange show, also provided a number of popular networking and showcasing activities.
  • Connectivity infrastructure was strengthened to promote networking activities even before the event. Ten days prior to GES 2004, the online Business Matching Portal was launched to allow delegates to arrange meetings with like-minded participants.
