You may activate a boat's heating or air conditioning system before coming on board by just using a cellular phone. Or retrieve engine diagnostic information from boats while on the water to improve marine maintenance.
These capabilities may be more than laboratory theories as Brunswick New Technologies (BNT) prepares to test and pilot a new generation of electronic solutions for the marine and recreational industries at its Marine Innovation Centre which opened here in October.
The Marine Innovation Centre is a strategic alliance among BNT, Raffles Marina, one of the largest advanced marinas in the Pacific Rim, and several private technology partners in the region. "We are proud to host BNT's Marine Innovation Centre. It represents the pioneering spirit of innovative companies that are capitalising on Singapore's position as a compelling hub for business and investment," said Mr Ko Kheng Hwa, Managing Director EDB.
Mr TJ Chung, President BNT, said that the centre will focus on the integration and performance of products and systems that employ items such as embedded PCs, micro controllers, wireless technologies and other mechanical components within recreational marine vehicles.
"Working with our partners at the centre, we will help develop and refine leading-edge technologies that will advance the marine and recreational industries while improving products for consumers. From technologies that enhance boating and make it simpler, to improved fuel economy and lower emissions, we will do our best to take what works in the laboratory to market," explained Mr Chung.
