Companies listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange will have the opportunity to be recognised for outstanding people practices at the Board level by entering Singapore's Best Managed Boards Award.

The Best Managed Boards Award (BMBA), the first of its kind in Asia-Pacific, is initiated by the Economic Development Board in consultation with the Singapore Institute of Directors (SID), Hewitt Associates and the Business Times. It is supported by the Singapore Stock Exchange and EDB.

The Award presentation ceremony to be held in October will recognise listed companies which display excellence in human capital management though board practices. It will focus on, and evaluate, the orientation of boards to corporate governance, existing practices that enhance directors' performance and strengthen the stewardship role of the boards. It will also assess the importance of directors' conduct, development, performance focus and commitment to shareholder value.

Mrs Lee Ying Adams, Director, Resource Development Division, EDB, said: "The Award will support Singapore's attractiveness as a trusted and desirable location for business and investments." Mr Na Boon Chong, Hewitt's General Manager in Singapore, agreed, adding that studies had indicated that investors would place a premium on companies with good governance and people practices. These serve as early indicators of financial success further down the road.

Nominations closed on May 15. For further information, visit www.bestmanagedboards.com.
