Hunt on for fifty of Singapore

Private companies owned or based in Singapore eligible

To be eligible, companies must be home-grown and privately owned. Nominations close on June 30 and the results will be announced in November.

Nominations have opened for the 2003 Enterprise 50 (E50) list and the e50.startup list. The E50 list represents the 50 most enterprising privately-held companies in Singapore while the e50.startup award recognises young entrepreneurs who have demonstrated vision, commitment and true entrepreneurial spirit.

Launched in 1995, the E50 list rank companies based on weighted averages of selected performance indicators such as operating profit before tax, turnover and profit growth over the last three years. The e50.startup was launched last year.

Mr Willie Cheng, Country Managing Director of Accenture, one of the organisers, said: "This list (E50) represents the best of Singapore's local entrepreneurship. The e50.startup list transitions E50 to the next economy where there is a broader focus on innovation across all industries and gives recognition to budding entrepreneurs."

Mr Alvin Tay, Editor of The Business Times, the other organiser, said: "Winning an E50 award has its benefits. Some companies used it as a stepping stone to a listing on the Singapore Exchange while others have gained in terms of brand recognition and publicity."

Mr Ko Kheng Hwa, Managing Director EDB, said that Singapore's conducive enterprise ecosystem environment supports the formation and growth of many new enterprises each year.

Last year, some 3,600 new businesses in the high tech sector were incorporated. He added that the awards recognise and encourage outstanding homegrown enterprises that had flourished in this ecosystem. Both awards are supported by EDB and International Enterprise Singapore.
