Long history in Singapore since 1970
Amidst uncertainties posed by the war in Iraq and the outbreak of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome or SARS, Infineon Technologies AG, the world's sixth largest chip maker, broke ground for its new Asia-Pacific Headquarters here in April.
"We have not seen any dip in orders because of SARS, and things are in full swing," said Mr Loh Kin Wah, President, Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific, in response to a media question on the impact of SARS on the company's operations. He said his company would strengthen its operations and its role as a global competencies hub.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade & Industry, Mr Raymond Lim, was pleased to note that Infineon continues to reaffirm its commitment to Singapore, adding that the Government was resolved to containing the SARS situation here.
"The business community should know that it is business as usual for us in Singapore," declared Mr Lim.
Infineon's long history in Singapore began in 1970 as part of the Siemens Group and since then, it had grown in sync with the rest of the economies in the Asia-Pacific region.

It has a 230-man R&D team which includes Infineon's largest integrated circuit (IC) development team outside of Germany with more than 150 IC design engineers. The team will eventually grow to more than 370 engineers in five to seven years' time. Singapore also hosts Infineon's major assembly and test facility for the Asia-Pacific region, focusing on high-value products. Eventually, Singapore will be Infineon's global testing hub for its logic IC products.
Finally, Infineon's Asia-Pacific Headquarters, with more than 350 employees, manages about one-third of Infineon's global sales revenue and carries out a wide spectrum of functions including marketing, human resource and supply chain management.
This will expand to include intellectual property management, finance/treasury and IT support and infrastructure development as well as business development.
"Infineon is well placed to take advantage of Singapore's strengths to further expand its global business," said Mr Lim. |
