Singapore's standing as a world-class education hub recently received a boost with the University of Chicago's Financial Mathematics Department announcing plans to establish its Financial Mathematics Graduate Program here. This is the department's first such venture outside the United States.
"This is a singular and exciting event that underscores the global confluences in financial markets, and one that will meet the increasing demand we have experienced for individuals with formal education in financial mathematics both from students and businesses in the Asia-Pacific region," says Professor Niels Nygaard, Director, Financial Mathematics Program, The University of Chicago.
It will offer an intensive one-year curriculum of integrated studies in theoretical and applied mathematics as well as practical applications to derivatives pricing and the management of financial assets. The faculty consists of distinguished professors from the Departments of Mathematics, Statistics and Economics of the University of Chicago as well as experienced financial professionals.
To consolidate the University's offerings and further raise its profile in the region, the Financial Mathematics Department will co-locate with the Graduate School of Business at its Asian campus in Singapore.
