Patent Application Fund PLUS |

Please be informed that the EDB will be retiring the Patent Application Fund (PAF) PLUS scheme with effect from 1 Aug 2008. Applications received after 31 July 2008 will not be considered. The PAF PLUS has achieved its objective of promoting greater awareness of the need for patent protection and has encouraged and supported individuals and SMEs in protecting their inventions as evident by the steady rise in patent output from Singapore-based entities over the past 5 years. Please refer to the attached circular for more information.
Singapore wants to encourage inventors to patent inventions and commercialise their inventions. This scheme helps cover some of the costs of filing patent applications.
It covers professional and official fees and other related charges of patent filing, but not the cost of maintaining a lapsed patent application due to negligence, the defence of a patent, R&D costs, and charges arising from the transfer of rights.
You can apply for Patent Application Fund PLUS either as an individual or as a corporation. The criteria are:
Individual
You must be a Singapore citizen or permanent resident
Corporate For Singapore-based locally owned companies
- At least 30% local equity (30% owned by Singapore citizen or PR);
- Fixed Assets not exceeding S$15 mil for manufacturing companies;
- Employment size not exceeding 200 workers for non-manufacturing companies.
For Singapore-based foreign owned companies
- Fixed Assets not exceeding S$15 million for manufacturing companies;
- Employment size not exceeding 200 workers for non-manufacturing companies;
- R&D conducted in Singapore.
Other Conditions
The economic benefits arising from the commercialisation of the patent must be accrue to Singapore;
- Applicants should not be receiving any other Government/Statutory Board financial aid to defray the cost of patent filings for the same invention;
- Applicants have not and will not be claiming the "Single Tax Deduction for Patenting Cost" for the same invention; and
- The applicant(s) must be the official assignee(s)/owner(s) of the patent/patent application.
In the event that this is not the case, documentary proof must be furnished to show that the applicant(s) is the exclusive licensee(s) of the patent/patent application.
