One of Asia's safest cities, Singapore offers residents and visitors a growing palette of entertainment, cultural and lifestyle options.
The Esplanade arts centre, opened in October 2002, plays host to a great variety of local and international performers and performances. Its concert hall and theatre boast some of the latest acoustics technology. At other arts centres and performance halls, and at the movie theatres, pubs and other nightspots, more entertainment beckons.
There are golf courses, sports complexes, picnic areas, hiking paths, and every other possible form of outdoor activity, all in clean and green surroundings. Shopping centres abound, as do restaurants and food centres.
Next to the sleek office towers of the business districts are two and three-storeyed shophouses that go back 100 years or more. Singapore's physical heritage has been preserved, with key areas such as Chinatown, Little India and Geylang/Joo Chiat as well as architecturally significant buildings conserved.
It's hard to beat Singapore for a lifestyle that's both vibrant and comfortable. Everything works, and when something does break down, it's fixed quickly. The people are friendly and helpful, and focused on achievement. The facilities for work and play are as good as almost any other major city around the world.
